This Cabernet is grown in one of the most beautiful places on earth! Howell Mountain is Napa's oldest AVA. The region is composed of 14,000 acres of rugged and mountainous terrain all above 1,400 foot elevation. It is located in the Vaca Mountain range just east of St. Helena. The region is well known for producing magnificent, elegant and robust wines. The growing conditions are perfect for bordeaux varieties, where Cabernet is King and that may be largely due to the elevation. The climate here is characterized by moderate temperatures that are cooler than in most other parts of the valley. The soil in this ava is older, well-drained volcanic rock. Vines have very deep roots and struggle with low vigor, producing intense flavors, dark color and very ripe fruit. Our vines are grown on the Ink Grade Vineyard that is owned and farmed by the Heitz Family. We are sharing our rows next to very famous Napa Valley Wineries, and are thrilled to share this gorgeous wine with you!

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
rich, dense cherry.
Vineyard Notes
Grown on the steeply terraced vineyard above 1,400 feet elevation this vineyard is tucked away among the dense forrest of douglas Fir Trees. It has a north east facing slope and calcerous, sand and limestone shale for soil. Vines were planted in 1976.
Production Notes
Hand picked grapes were received and crushed, leaving whole berries in the fermentor. Grapes were cold soaked for 7 days and then my favorite red yeast was added to start the fermentation. the wine was pumped over 2 x daily for 14 days, then 1 x daily for 7 more days. After 21 days, the cap started to sink into the newly fermented wine and we locked down the tank top to seal out any air and let the grapes soak in the wine for an additiona 39 days. We pressed off and filled this wine into barrels the next day. 75% in new
