2006 Zinfandel Sonoma County

Our Sonoma County Zinfandel is a blend made from both our Dry Creek and Russian River vineyards, and blending them together resulted in a complex wine.  The blackberry, currant and great tannins come from Dry Creek and the plum-cherry & licorice come from the Russian River.  The two vineyards are about 10 miles apart, and greatly influenced by their appellations.  We crushed and fermented in our small 1-ton, open-topped fermentation tanks.  Punch downs were done twice a day until fermentations finished at about 14 days.  The wine was pressed off into older French oak barrels for about 9 months and then we moved the wine into newer French oak barrels in January and bottled on July 2, 2008.  The wine is rich, juicy, bright and delicious.

Our Sonoma County Zinfandel has enticing aromas of dried cranberry cherry, juicy-plum, jasmine, orange blossom and vanilla combined with ripe flavors of rhubarb, licorice, heady dark cherry with a berry, spicy-pepper ligering finish.  Delicious by itself, and goes nicely with food.
