We start this wine by dumping 20% whole clusters into the bottom of the tank.  Then we add the remaining 80% whole berries to ferment gently - retaining all the wild cherry, wild blackberry, and wild strawberry aromas and flavors.  The grapes are mixed by punching down the cap every 3 hours for 7 days and then dumped into the press.  Barrels are filled, and the final malo-lactic fermentation happens in French oak barrels that are about 75% new.  This process develops the richness, density, and smoothness that everyone loves!  Aged 12 months in small French oak barrels promotes a smooth finish that begs for another and another and another - SIP! - Released to our wine club 1-10-22. - Enjoy -Nancy

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
This old vine vineyard (75 years old) is tucked in the very northern end of the Alexander Valley, just north of Cloverdale. The vines are old and it is a field mix of Cab Sauv, petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Grenache which all but shrivel up by the time the Carignane is ready to harvest in late October every year. It is typically y the last grape to be harvested.
Winemaker Notes
This is a tough grape - it usually must hang on the vines through 2-3 rain storms before it is ripe and ready to harvest at the end of October. I never worry about rot or problems because this is how it must be. The resulting wine is lovely, rich, fruitfilled and luscious.
